INO's lidar and remote sensing expertise allows us to provide our clients with one-of-a-kind remote monitoring solutions for a growing range of needs. Lidar (Light Detection And Ranging) is the optical counterpart of radar. Because it is spatially more accurate than radar, it makes it possible to extract the maximum quantity of information from a complex scene. The vast majority of lidar systems designed by INO are based on pulsed laser technology. Laser pulses are emitted, they hit a target, and their backscattering is detected.

INO has been building on its expertise in the design, assembly, and calibration of lidar systems for over ten years. Our lidar solutions cover an impressive range of systems, from low-cost, compact, short-range remote sensing lidars to highly sophisticated lidars that use Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF) to enable remote sensing at a range of over several kilometers. INO has also adapted commercial lidars.

INO’s lidar system applications

It is possible to observe:

  • Solid targets (vehicles, pedestrians, etc.)
  • Liquid surfaces (agitated or stagnant)
  • Aerosols (dust, mist/rain, and biological or chemical agents)

Our advanced detection algorithms make it possible to determine the speed/position of defined targets. For extended targets, such as dust clouds, drift can be observed by inverting the lidar trace.

Robust technologies adapted for industrial conditions

Remote sensing systems designed by INO are often used in harsh environments where humidity, dust, and corrosion are issues. Our multidisciplinary design teams (optical design, electronic, mechanical, laser, specialty optical fiber, software, and laser safety) have all the knowledge and skills needed to deliver robust solutions without compromising performance.

INO also has the expertise to develop its lidar technology from the prototype phase all the way to short-run production.
