Some of our achievements
Our team of laser micromachining specialists works together with our clients to develop custom solutions to problems for which no solutions are available on the market. We also develop open-architecture systems that can be configured by users to meet a variety of needs. Our optics/photonics know-how is both practical and diverse, allowing us to incorporate our micromachining capabilities into other areas of INO expertise to develop innovative components that can be used in more complex photonic systems.
Laser micromachining processes offer many advantages. They allow for micro-scale machining. They are contact free and do not contaminate surfaces, thereby minimizing the risk of damaging machined materials. They also make it possible to remove a material and leave another in its place while varying parameters such as wavelength and the energy density applied to the material. In addition, laser welding makes it possible to fabricate components without adhesive for results that are more stable, durable, and shock resistant. These advantages are particularly useful in processing specialty optical fibers and fabricating fiber sensors, fiber laser components, and special optical fiber assemblies.
Our micromachining processes include ablation processes (cutting, drilling, stripping, and shaping) and fusion processes (welding, polishing, and forming). We use four types of lasers: CO2 lasers (four systems), a femtosecond laser, an excimer laser, and an Nd: YAG laser (1,064 nm, 532 nm, 355 nm, and 266 nm). We also machine glass, plastics, ceramics, and metals. For plastics, the CO2 laser offers a number of possible industrial processes such as cutting, drilling, and welding. For metals, the femtosecond laser yields a machining resolution of about 1 µm, while reducing thermal effects to a minimum. CO2 and femtosecond lasers can also be used for machining ceramic, but the excimer laser offers the best blend of machining speed and precision.
We have built an enviable reputation among small and medium-sized businesses by offering them custom micromachining services and processes for specific applications. We can develop custom processes, prototype machined parts, and machining systems on demand.
